Benjamin Keith Mattox is a native of New Hampshire and an Active Duty Navy Lieutenant Commander. He has held many roles as a Physician Assistant including Division Officer of Fisher Branch Clinic and was appointed as the first Lead Physician Assistant of the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center Veterans Administration (FHCC). He has served as the command Medical Officer and Medical Department Head at SEAL Team FOUR.
In 2017, he completed the Navy Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant Fellowship at Navy Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. He successfully completed this demanding twelve-month fellowship and during this time he completed a Doctorate in Public Health degree with a focus in Health Advocacy and Leadership from Capella University.
LCDR Mattox then served as the Director of the Navy Medical Center Portsmouth Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant Fellowship. He developed a PA fellow Trauma Rotation at an outside Level 1 trauma center, published numerous articles in Orthopedic Surgery research, and his most notable success was pioneering the transition of the fellowship to a Doctoral degree program.
LCDR Mattox also served as the Sole Orthopedic Provider for Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He is currently Public Health Faculty for Purdue University's Masters of Public Health Program. He is currently stationed as the Department Head for the Navy's Role 2 Light Maneuver Surgical Platform in the Navy Expeditionary Medical Training Institute in Camp Pendleton, CA.
